Olajuwon Raheem Clarke, age 29, homeless, was taken into custody in Brooklyn for the Monday, Nov. 20 stabbing of a Stamford man on a CT Transit bus, said Capt. Tom Scanlon of the Stamford Police.
Witnesses reported that the CT Transit bus stopped at the bus stop and a man got on the bus and engaged the victim in an argument. The argument turned physical, and the suspect pulled out an unknown object from his coat pocket and stabbed the victim in the chest, Scanlon said.
The suspect then immediately fled from the scene.
Scanlon said the victim, a 25-year-old, was treated by Stamford EMS and transported to Stamford Hospital where he underwent immediate emergency surgery, and then spent several days in the intensive care unit.
"The victim is still recovering from his injuries," Scanlon said.
Through an investigation by the Stamford Police Major Crimes Unit, the suspect was identified as Clarke, Scanlon added. Clarke is homeless and is known to investigators from prior incidents.
On Tuesday, Dec. 5, Clarke was arrested in New York and was held in Rikers Island Jail in East Elmhurst New York as a fugitive from justice.
On Tuesday, Dec. 19, Clark was turned over to Stamford investigators and charged with:
- Assault
- Breach of peace
- Possession of a dangerous instrument
Clark is being held on a $250,000 bond.
"The Stamford Police Department would like to commend the Stamford EMS and Stamford Hospital staff whose rapid and specialized care undoubtedly saved this victim’s life," Scanlon said.
